Treatment for Neck Laxity

Neck laxity is not always treated in the same way.
The key lies in understanding when a treatment is truly appropriate—and when it is not.

The neck is one of the first areas to reveal signs of ageing, even when the face remains well cared for.

At Clínica Provença in Barcelona, we carefully assess what is really happening in your neck before recommending any procedure. Poly-L-lactic acid treatment allows for a progressive improvement in firmness without creating artificial results.

We provide guidance based on medical expertise.

Treatment for Neck Laxity.

Is this treatment suitable for your case?

This treatment is often a good option when the main concern is loss of firmness and skin quality in the neck, although not every case is the same.

It may be appropriate for you if:

If another issue is more dominant, such as submental fat or very advanced laxity, a different strategy may be more appropriate. That is why a proper assessment is essential.

What does treatment for neck laxity involve?

Poly-L-lactic acid treatment is used when we want to improve skin quality and support gradually. It is not intended as an abrupt correction, but as a medical strategy to stimulate progressive tissue improvement.

This material is a biocompatible and biodegradable synthetic polymer, and its effect does not rely on immediately ‘filling’ the area, but on triggering a gradual increase in collagen and elastin production in the treated zone.

In the neck, it is especially useful when we see loss of firmness, thinner texture, crepey skin or wrinkles associated with reduced skin support. Over time, decreased collagen and cumulative ultraviolet damage contribute precisely to this loss of skin strength and elasticity.

What matters is understanding which concern is predominant. This treatment is not designed to add volume like a traditional filler, nor does it solve every type of ageing neck on its own. When a fatty double chin is the main issue or laxity is very advanced, it may be more reasonable to consider a different strategy.

What we really treat in the neck

Not every patient comes in for the same reason, even when they use the word ‘laxity’. Sometimes the main concern is horizontal neck lines. In other cases, the skin looks thinner, less smooth or has less support. There may also be a combination of concerns, with loss of definition in the transition between the chin, jawline and neck.

That is why, before recommending treatment, we assess:

What poly-L-lactic acid can improve

Its value lies in improving tissue quality and firmness through a progressive approach. The goal is not for the neck to ‘look treated’, but to recover a more cared-for, more even appearance that integrates better with the lower third of the face.

What it does not correct on its own

It does not replace surgery when there is significant sagging. Nor is it the main solution when the dominant issue is marked submental fat. Correct indication is part of the outcome.

Treatments performed with a personalised medical approach.

To enhance your appearance.

What can be achieved with this treatment?

We aim for a gradual improvement in neck firmness and skin that looks more consistent, even and cared for.

In many cases, the improvement is not about ‘tightening’ the neck, but about making it look less fragile, dull or unstructured.

Change usually integrates better when it is planned with restraint and without trying to overcorrect.

Aesthetic medicine treatments in Barcelona.

Why Clínica Provença?

Medical judgement and a global structural analysis

We do not treat the neck as an isolated area. We assess its relationship with the jawline, the chin and the lower third of the face.

This allows us to decide more precisely when a treatment can help – and when it cannot.

Preference for measured adjustments and a progressive approach

We prioritise measured changes. In many cases, treatment is planned in stages so we can observe how the tissue responds.

That degree of caution is key in such a visible area.

A search for balance and coherence

The goal is not to transform the neck, but to improve its appearance. Always respecting each patient’s anatomy, expression and style.

A well-indicated result should complement the face, not compete with it.

Active communication and support throughout the process

The initial assessment is only the beginning. We place great importance on follow-up, clinical progress and how the patient perceives each stage.

That information guides subsequent decisions.

Safety, technical precision and ongoing medical training

Safety does not depend only on the product. It also depends on the indication, the technique and control of the process.

We assess how much each case can realistically improve without creating unrealistic expectations.

Would you like a personalised assessment?

We guide you with medical judgment and an individualized assessment.

Complimentary first consultation.

Frequently asked questions about neck laxity treatment

No. When there is significant sagging or very advanced laxity, this treatment does not replace surgery. It may be helpful in selected cases to improve skin quality and firmness, but not every neck benefits from the same approach.

It can be a good option when loss of firmness and skin quality in the neck is the main concern. If another issue is more relevant, such as marked submental fat or very advanced laxity, it may not be the most suitable indication. A medical assessment is what determines whether it is worth considering.

It depends on which component is predominant. If the main issue is submental fat, this may not be the most appropriate treatment on its own. A medical assessment makes it possible to distinguish whether neck appearance is being influenced mainly by laxity, skin quality, a double chin or a combination of factors.

When correctly indicated and performed following a prior medical assessment, it is a widely used treatment. Even so, like any injectable procedure, it has potential adverse effects and is not indicated for every patient. Treatment should be postponed if there is active infection or inflammation in the area, and relevant medical history should be reviewed beforehand.

It depends on which component is predominant in your case. When loss of firmness and skin quality is the main issue, poly-L-lactic acid may be a good option after assessment.

There is no single answer that is valid for every case.

It is not an immediate-effect treatment. Changes are usually seen progressively as the tissue responds, so improvement should be assessed with perspective and follow-up.

There is no universal number. It depends on the degree of laxity, the quality of the tissue, the area to be treated and the starting point. In this area, it usually makes more sense to think in terms of a treatment plan than a ‘one-off session’.

The effects generally last between 18 and 24 months, although they may last longer in some patients.

In general, returning to your usual routine is usually quick, although mild swelling, tenderness, redness or temporary bruising may appear. In some cases, small irregularities, papules or nodules may also occur, which is why technique and follow-up are especially important.

Yes. In some cases, it is integrated into a broader rejuvenation plan for the lower third of the face or the neck. The combination is adapted to what the tissue truly needs.
