Lip Fillers

To define, hydrate or enhance lip volume with hyaluronic acid, guided by the medical judgement of Dr Manuela Gheorghiu.

Your lips may have always been naturally thin, or over time the contour may have become less defined and lipstick may no longer sit as it used to. There is a non-surgical medical option: in suitable cases, hyaluronic acid can help restore definition, hydration or volume without changing your expression.

Understanding exactly what your lips need — and how much — is what the assessment is for. Booking it does not commit you to treatment: it helps you understand, with medical criteria, whether lip fillers are right for you.

We provide guidance based on medical expertise.

Lip Fillers Barcelona.

What does lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid involve?

Hyaluronic acid is a molecule already present in your skin: it retains water and supports the tissue. In aesthetic medicine, it is injected as a gel into precise points of the lips to restore definition to the contour, improve tissue hydration or add volume where it is lacking. It is resorbable: the body gradually integrates and breaks it down over time.

There is no such thing as a standard lip here. Every mouth has its own proportion, border and way of moving, and this is what determines the technique: the injection plane, the areas treated and the amount used. Before doing anything, Dr Gheorghiu observes the lips at rest, while speaking and when smiling, anticipating how each gesture will affect the face as a whole. This is why the result works with your expression rather than interrupting it.

It is also important to clarify what this treatment is not. It is not permanent, and it is not intended to be: choosing a resorbable material is a safety decision, not a limitation. It is also not always the right technique: when your concern is vertical lines above the lip, another treatment is usually more appropriate, and we will explain this during the assessment.

The session is brief. We apply topical anaesthetic a few minutes beforehand, the injections are performed with a controlled technique area by area, and you can return to your normal routine the same day. After 10–14 days, we see you for a review to check how the product has integrated and, if needed, make a fine adjustment.

Is it right for you?

Lip fillers are usually suitable in very specific situations:

There are times when it is better to wait: during pregnancy and breastfeeding, treatment is postponed, as it is if there is an active infection in the area or an outbreak of cold sores. And if what you want is to copy someone else’s lips, the most useful thing we can do is explain what your anatomy can and cannot support: a lip shape that looks beautiful on another face may not work on yours, and medical judgement is what protects the result.

Treatments guided by medical judgment, with personalised planning and a conservative approach.

What can this treatment achieve?

A defined contour, hydrated tissue and volume in proportion with your mouth and your face. If there was asymmetry, it is corrected or softened. The lips continue to move naturally when speaking, smiling and expressing yourself: the sign of well-performed lip fillers is that no one can quite say what has changed — only that you look good.

The result can be seen from the first day, although some swelling is expected during the first few days. The final lip appearance — the one you can truly judge — appears around two weeks later, once the product has integrated into the tissue.

From there, the usual duration is around 9 to 12 months: hyaluronic acid is gradually reabsorbed, without abrupt changes, and you decide whether you would like to maintain the result later on.

What is the assessment like?

We listen to what concerns you

Before discussing treatment, we understand what you notice, what you would like to improve and the result you are expecting.

We assess your lips as part of the whole face

We assess your lips at rest, while speaking and when smiling — their shape, proportion, tissue quality and support in the perioral area — to understand what is behind what you see.

We give you a reasoned indication

We explain what applies to your case, what we do not recommend and why. Sometimes the best option is another technique; sometimes, waiting or not treating.

You leave with a clear plan

You receive a personalised proposal with an indicative budget. You can decide afterwards, calmly and without obligation.

Would you like a personalised assessment?

Frequently asked questions about lip fillers

It is the most reasonable question of all, and the answer lies in how the treatment is planned. An artificial look is not caused by hyaluronic acid itself, but by too much product or placement that does not respect lip anatomy. This is why the plan starts with your mouth — its proportions and the way it moves — not with a predefined lip model.

We work with carefully controlled amounts and a progressive approach. If, at the review, we see that the lips can support a little more and you want it, we can add it. This order protects the result: the goal is for you to look good, not different.

You leave the clinic and can return to your normal routine, with simple recommendations for the first 24 hours: avoid intense exercise, direct heat and pressure on the lips.

Visible swelling is common during the first 24–48 hours, sometimes with a small bruise. It is also common for one side to settle before the other, so the lips may look slightly uneven during those days: this is part of the process, not the final result. If you have an important event, tell us during the assessment so we can schedule the session with around two weeks’ margin.

When performed by an aesthetic doctor, with a prior assessment and medical-grade product, it is a treatment with a high safety profile. The most common effects are mild and temporary: swelling, redness or small bruises that resolve on their own within a few days.

The lips have a delicate vascular anatomy, and this explains two things. First, why this treatment belongs in a medical setting: preventing and managing a complication requires diagnosis and the ability to respond immediately. Second, why technique matters: small lumps or product migration beyond the lip border are related to the amount injected and the placement plane.

For medical reasons, we do not use permanent fillers such as silicone or biopolymers in the lips: they are associated with nodules and long-term reactions that resorbable hyaluronic acid does not present.

As a guide, between 9 and 12 months, with variations depending on the product, the treated area and your metabolism. Reabsorption is gradual: volume and definition soften little by little, without a sudden change from one day to the next.

When the product is reabsorbed, the lips return to their previous state. They do not become saggy or more wrinkled because you have had hyaluronic acid. If you decide to maintain the result, a touch-up usually requires less product than the first session.

They are three different goals that are often confused. Lip contouring redefines the lip border and improves the outline, with very little change in size. Hydration improves tissue quality: softer, more supple lips, with practically no added volume. Lip augmentation itself adds body where it is lacking, always in proportion with the rest of the face.

Many cases combine two of the three, and some do not need the option they had in mind. Distinguishing between them is exactly the purpose of the assessment: asking for volume when what is missing is contour can lead to larger but poorly defined lips — precisely what you want to avoid.

We apply topical anaesthetic a few minutes before the injections, and most patients describe the sensation as brief and tolerable discomfort rather than pain. If you are particularly concerned, tell us during the assessment: the comfort protocol can be adapted to your sensitivity.
