Facial harmonization begins with a structural facial assessment: proportions, tissue quality, support vectors, muscle dynamics and any previous treatments. Only then do we decide which planes to reinforce, in what order, and which areas are best left untreated.
Hyaluronic acid is the tool. The method is what determines whether the result blends naturally with your face or sits on top of it.

Facial harmonization is a medical treatment plan designed to rebalance facial structure using cross-linked hyaluronic acid placed in specific anatomical planes. It is not about filling wrinkles or enlarging isolated areas, but about restoring support, proportions and projection while preserving your identity.
Hyaluronic acid works in two ways: it retains water and provides biomechanical support to the tissue. Depending on the injection plane, it serves different functions: in the deep plane it provides support, in intermediate planes it creates projection, and in the superficial plane it improves surface quality.
That is why the result depends not only on the product itself, but on where it is placed, in what order and according to what clinical criteria.
Facial harmonization is not a standard zone-by-zone treatment. It is an individualised plan that reinforces specific vectors and avoids treating others in order to preserve the features that make you recognisable.
During your consultation at our clinic in Barcelona, we assess the face as a system, not as a sum of separate areas.
Proportions between facial thirds
We assess the relationship between the mid and lower face to identify what is disrupting facial balance and whether this is due to bone structure, loss of support or tissue ageing.
Support vectors
Certain anatomical points act as pillars. When one loses support, the tissue descends and affects other areas. Identifying the origin prevents us from filling where the problem is visible instead of treating the cause.
Tissue quality and thickness
Thin, photoaged or previously treated tissue does not integrate product in the same way. This influences the technique, the type of hyaluronic acid and the amount used.
Signs of previous treatments
Previous products, non-resorbed remnants or changes in tissue distribution can alter the treatment plan.
The outcome of this assessment is not a list of areas, but a clinical hierarchy: which vectors to prioritise, what to leave for a second phase, which features to preserve and when it is advisable to combine with other treatments.
Facial harmonization is not indicated for every face or every concern. The assessment usually identifies three scenarios:
Clear indication
Cases with structural loss of support, certain asymmetries or reduced projection in facial features. Here, hyaluronic acid is well indicated and the plan is structural.
Mixed indication
When structural loss is combined with facial laxity or poor skin quality, the plan does not always begin with hyaluronic acid. It is often better to improve dermal quality first and then reassess. This helps avoid overtreatment.
Not the main indication
If the main concern is texture, radiance, pores, superficial lines or laxity without loss of support, hyaluronic acid is not the first choice. In other cases, biostimulation, polynucleotides or even a surgical assessment may be more appropriate.
It is also not the right treatment when the expectation is to transform defining facial features or solve everything in a single session. Sound clinical judgement means doing what improves the face, not simply what is requested.

Hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in the human body, particularly in the skin, joints and connective tissues. From a biochemical perspective, it is a polysaccharide with a high capacity to attract and retain water, which is essential for maintaining tissue hydration, elasticity and volume.
In aesthetic medicine, hyaluronic acid is used for its biocompatibility and its ability to integrate progressively into the tissues, allowing for controlled, personalised improvement of skin quality and facial harmony.
As a resorbable and non-permanent substance, it offers a high safety profile and allows for natural results that respect each patient’s anatomy and facial expression.
Hyaluronic acid is a safe treatment when performed by a qualified doctor using medical-grade products. We work with biocompatible, resorbable materials, which offer a high safety profile.
After the injections, mild and temporary effects such as redness, swelling or small bruises may appear and usually settle within a few days. We provide personalised aftercare advice to minimise discomfort and support a smooth recovery.
At Clínica Provença, we do not use permanent fillers, as they are associated with more long-term complications. We prioritise safe, reversible treatments supported by clinical evidence.
Natural-looking results depend on the method. Artificial outcomes usually occur when treatment is driven by isolated areas and patient demand, without a prior vector map or clear limits. Here, the plan starts with facial structure and with the decision of what not to treat. No guarantee is absolute, but this approach helps the result blend naturally.
It depends on the case. Some plans can be completed in one session; others require one to three spaced sessions so we can assess how the tissue integrates each step before continuing.
The result can be assessed reliably at four weeks. Typical longevity is twelve to eighteen months, depending on the product, plane, tissue and lifestyle factors.
This treatment is not performed in the presence of active infection or inflammation, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, in certain active autoimmune diseases, significant immunosuppression or relevant histories of hypersensitivity. It may also be discouraged in cases of very advanced laxity, expectations of facial transformation or circumstances that require a different prior assessment.
This is decided during the consultation. The clinical examination determines whether the main issue is structural, dermal, diffuse loss of support or a combination of several factors, and in which order they should be treated.
You can return to your usual activities immediately, with no need for downtime.
During the first 24–48 hours, it is advisable to avoid intense exercise, excessive heat (such as saunas or very hot baths) and manipulation of the treated area to support proper recovery.
Mild and temporary effects such as slight swelling, tenderness or small bruises are normal and usually resolve within a few days.
