Sculptra Treatment

Stimulates your own collagen so the skin gradually regains firmness, without surgery.

Noticing that the skin on your face has lost firmness has a clear explanation: over time, the collagen that supports it is produced more slowly. Sculptra acts precisely there. Instead of filling, it encourages your own skin to rebuild support from within, gradually.

It is not the right treatment for every case, which is why we always begin with a medical assessment: studying your skin, understanding what you are looking for and telling you whether it is appropriate for you — or which alternative would be a better fit.

We provide guidance based on medical expertise.

Tratamiento Sculptra

What does Sculptra treatment involve?

Sculptra is an injectable made of poly-L-lactic acid, a collagen biostimulator. It is biocompatible and resorbable: the product gradually disappears from the body over time, and what remains is the collagen your own skin has produced again.

This is what makes it different from a filler. A hyaluronic acid filler adds volume where it is injected, with a visible effect from the first day. Sculptra works differently: it helps restore the support the skin has gradually lost, following the pace of your own regeneration. That is why the result is not seen immediately after the appointment, but over the following weeks. And that is why, when it appears, it does not look like a treatment: it looks like your skin, with better structure.

It is also important to understand what it is not. It is not the option for adding targeted volume to a specific area, it is not used on the lips or around the eyes, and it is not the indicated technique when skin laxity is very advanced. If your case points in another direction, we will tell you and discuss alternatives.

The session takes around half an hour. We apply the product through microinjections, with topical anaesthetic if needed, and you can return to your normal routine afterwards. Some swelling or slight redness for one or two days is common, and we will explain how to massage the area during the first week: it is a simple gesture, but it forms part of the treatment because it helps the product distribute evenly.

One detail that helps avoid surprises: when you leave the session, the area may look slightly fuller. That initial volume comes from the sterile water used to prepare the product and goes down within one or two days. The real change comes later, with your own collagen.

Is it right for you?

Sculptra is usually suitable when what you notice is a diffuse loss of firmness: the skin feels less dense, the contours are less defined and the overall appearance looks slightly tired — but there is no significant excess skin and no specific area you want to project.

It works especially well for mild to moderate laxity and for skin that has lost quality and thickness, something often seen from around the age of 40-45, after significant weight changes or in skin with accumulated sun exposure. We also assess it in younger patients when the skin shows early loss of density.

There are also situations where we will recommend something else. If you are looking for a visible change before an upcoming date, a biostimulator is not the right route: its timing is biological and cannot be forced. If you want to restore or project a specific area — cheekbone, chin, nasolabial fold — we will probably discuss hyaluronic acid filler. And if laxity is advanced, with real excess skin, the answer may lie in another type of technique; we will also tell you. All of this is clarified during the assessment.

What can this treatment achieve?

The aim is not to change your features, but to give the skin back what it has gradually lost: support, density and firmness. In practice:

What is the assessment like?

Before recommending Sculptra — or any other treatment — we need to understand your case.

First, we listen to you: what concerns you when you look in the mirror, how long it has been happening and what you expect to achieve.

Then we analyse by layers — bone, muscle, fat and skin — to understand what explains what you see. Skin laxity does not always have the same origin, and the right treatment depends on yours.

Based on that, we give you a reasoned recommendation: what is suitable for your case, what is not, and why. Sometimes the answer is Sculptra; sometimes it is another technique; sometimes, none.

You leave with a plan and a quote, and you decide afterwards, calmly.

Would you like a personalised assessment?

We guide you with medical judgment and an individualized assessment.

Frequently asked questions about Sculptra

The change is not immediate. During the first few weeks it is normal not to see a difference: the regeneration process is underway beneath the surface, but it needs time. Most patients begin to notice the skin changing between the fourth and eighth week, and the full result is seen a few months after completing the protocol.

Yes, it is a slower rhythm than a filler — and that is precisely what makes the change feel like something that belongs to you, not something that has been added.

This is a common concern and it deserves a direct answer. Nodules are a known complication of biostimulators, and in most described cases they are related to technique: incorrect dilution, injection that is too superficial or use in areas that are not suitable for the product.

That is why Sculptra is not applied to the lips or the eye contour, why product preparation and injection depth matter so much, and why massage during the first few days is part of the treatment.

The session takes around half an hour and you can continue with your day afterwards. Some swelling, redness or a small bruise at the injection points for a few days is normal.

We will give you a simple massage protocol for the first week and ask you to avoid intense exercise for the first 24-48 hours. A useful note: the fullness you see immediately after the session is from the preparation fluid and goes down within one or two days. The real result arrives later.

Poly-L-lactic acid has been used in medicine for decades — including in resorbable sutures — and is biocompatible: the body breaks it down and eliminates it. As with any injectable treatment, it can cause temporary local effects such as swelling, redness or bruising.

We do not perform it during pregnancy or breastfeeding: not because there is evidence of risk, but because there are no studies in these stages and we prefer to postpone it. There are also situations — some active autoimmune diseases or a tendency to abnormal scarring — that we assess case by case in consultation, with your medical history in front of us.

They are different treatments for different needs, and they do not compete with each other. Hyaluronic acid adds volume where it is placed, with an immediate effect: it is the option when you want to restore or project a specific area, such as the cheekbone, chin or a hollow under-eye area.

Sculptra does not add targeted volume: it stimulates your own collagen to restore firmness and density over a broader area, gradually. The question is not which one is better, but which one responds to what is happening to your skin — and that is exactly what we clarify during the assessment. In some cases, it also makes sense to combine them, each with its own role.

The usual protocol is between two and three sessions, spaced several weeks apart, although the exact number depends on your skin, your age and your starting point — and is defined during the assessment. Why not all at once? Because collagen is built in phases: each session stimulates, the tissue responds, and the next session works on that response. Concentrating everything into one appointment does not speed up the result.
