Polynucleotides are highly purified fragments of naturally derived DNA—obtained from salmon—which are delivered into the skin through microinjections. Rather than filling or tightening from the outside, they provide your own cells with a stimulus to function more effectively.
With age, sun exposure and the passage of time, the skin no longer repairs itself at the same rate: it loses smoothness, becomes thinner and begins to show fine lines. Polynucleotides act on fibroblasts, the cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin, and help restore part of this repair capacity. This is why the result is not a filler effect or a change in your features: it is your own skin, with improved quality.
This also defines what the treatment does not do. It does not replace lost volume in areas such as the cheeks or folds, lift sagging tissue or correct under-eye concerns of structural or vascular origin. When these are the underlying issues, other techniques are more suitable, and we will explain them during your assessment.
The session is brief and carried out in the clinic. After cleansing the skin, microinjections are administered to the areas being treated. The procedure is generally well tolerated, and you can return to your day straight afterwards. Mild redness or a small area of swelling at the injection point is normal and usually settles quickly.
As for expectations, the change is gradual. The first signs usually become noticeable after a few weeks, and the result develops as the treatment course progresses.
Polynucleotides are well suited when your main concern is skin quality: dullness, thinning, early fine lines, reduced smoothness, or under-eye concerns caused more by thin, poor-quality skin than by bags or hollowing. If this sounds like you, the treatment may be a very good starting point.
There are situations, however, in which a different approach is more appropriate. If the main issue is loss of volume—such as a flattened cheek or a pronounced fold—sagging that requires tissue repositioning, or an under-eye concern of vascular or structural origin, polynucleotides alone will not be enough. This does not mean they are ineffective; it simply means that is not their purpose. In these cases, the most natural approach may be to combine them with another technique or begin with a different treatment, depending on what we see when assessing your face.
They are also frequently used to prepare the skin: healthier skin tends to respond better to other treatments. Often, the question is not one treatment or the other, but the order in which they should be performed.

These changes develop gradually, session by session, and are more likely to prompt a ‘you look well’ than a ‘you have had something done’. That is the aim.
During the assessment, we start with you, not with the treatment. First, we listen to what concerns you and what you hope to achieve.
We then assess your face to understand what is causing what you see: whether it is related to skin quality—texture, early fine lines, smoothness or thinning—or whether there is volume loss, sagging or pigmentation, which would require a different approach.
Based on this, we give you a reasoned medical recommendation: what is appropriate for your case, what is not, and why. Sometimes the answer is polynucleotides; sometimes it is another technique; and sometimes no treatment is needed for the time being.
You leave with a plan and a quote, and you decide afterwards, calmly.

The difference lies in where they act: a cream works on the surface, whereas polynucleotides are delivered within the skin, where they stimulate the cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin.
It is not magic and the effect is not immediate—the change develops over the following weeks, particularly in texture, firmness and hydration. However, they work when the concern is related to skin quality; if the cause is different, they will not address it, which is why we prefer to assess you before making any promises.
It is not that type of treatment. Polynucleotides do not fill or add volume, so they do not change your features or leave the face looking ‘puffy’.
What they do is improve the quality of your own skin, so the result is perceived as a more rested version of your face, not a different face. You may notice mild redness or small raised points on the first day, but these settle quickly.
This is the most common source of confusion, and understandably so, because the treatments are sometimes combined. The difference lies in their purpose.
Hyaluronic acid filler restores volume where it is lacking: it can define the cheek, soften a fold or enhance projection in a particular area. Polynucleotides do not fill; they improve skin quality from within, including texture, firmness and hydration.
Put simply: if the issue is ‘I lack volume or structural support’, hyaluronic acid is usually more appropriate; if it is ‘my skin has become dull or thinner’, polynucleotides may be the better option.
In many cases, the ideal approach is to combine them, following an order tailored to your face that we establish during the assessment.
Each treatment has a different purpose. Botox relaxes the muscles to soften expression lines, such as frown lines, crow’s feet or forehead lines; it does not improve skin quality.
Collagen stimulators also promote collagen production, but more intensively and with the aim of providing support and firmness when the loss is more pronounced; they represent a different level of treatment.
Facial vitamins or mesotherapy nourish the skin more superficially and their effect is shorter-lived.
Polynucleotides have their own role: they regenerate skin quality by stimulating the skin’s own repair mechanisms. These treatments do not compete with one another as much as people often think; they are frequently sequenced according to what each face needs.
Polynucleotides work gradually. The first signs are usually visible after a few weeks, and the result continues to develop as the spaced treatment sessions are completed.
It is not a one-off treatment and the effect is not permanent. The skin renews itself naturally, so the result lasts for a period of time and can later be reinforced with maintenance treatment.
The exact treatment plan and how often it should be repeated depend on your skin, and we define this with you during the assessment.
It is a treatment with a good safety profile. A highly purified material that is biocompatible with the skin is used, and side effects are generally limited to redness, mild swelling or a small bruise at the injection point, which usually resolve within a few days.
The treatment is not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding—not because it has been shown to be harmful, but because there are no studies in these situations and we prefer to wait as a precaution. During the assessment, we review your medical history to confirm that there is nothing that would make the treatment unsuitable for you.
The active ingredient is derived from salmon DNA, but it reaches the clinic as a highly purified and carefully controlled medical product, chosen precisely for its high compatibility with human skin; nothing remains of the fish other than its origin.
As for the injections, very fine needles are used and most people tolerate them well. We apply anaesthetic cream to keep you comfortable.
