Frown Lines Treatment

Soften frown lines in Barcelona with a personalised medical approach, focused on preserving natural facial expression and a harmonious look.

At Clínica Provença, we treat frown lines with a clear philosophy: our goal is not to eliminate expression, but to rebalance the activity of the glabellar muscles when repeated contraction creates the characteristic frown line.
After a detailed assessment, we design a personalised plan so the face appears more relaxed, while preserving natural expression.

Frown lines treatment.

Frown lines: what they are and why they appear

Frown lines typically appear as vertical lines between the eyebrows that become more noticeable when frowning or concentrating. In many people, this repeated expression pattern can give the face a tense or “serious” appearance, even when they are not feeling that way.

At first, they tend to be dynamic lines, appearing only with facial movement. Over time, they may also become visible at rest, especially when muscle contraction is intense or frequent.

Their development is influenced by factors such as:

Understanding these underlying factors helps determine the most appropriate treatment in each case.

What does frown lines treatment involve?

Medical treatment of frown lines is based on facial neuromodulation, using neuromodulators to temporarily reduce the contraction strength of the muscles responsible for the frowning expression.

After assessing facial movement and the treatment area, micro-injections are applied at strategic points to soften the lines while preserving a natural expression.

Enhance your appearance with a personalised medical approach.

What results can be expected?

When the line is well established, treatment can still be beneficial; however, in some cases a combined approach may be considered, depending on skin quality and each patient’s individual anatomy.

Results vary from person to person and depend on factors such as muscle strength, facial movement patterns and individual facial characteristics.

Who is a suitable candidate?

This treatment is usually considered for individuals who:

  • They present vertical lines between the eyebrows when expressing facial movement.
  • They notice an unintentionally angry or tense-looking expression.
  • They are looking for natural, subtle and personalised results.

There are situations in which treatment may not be indicated or should be postponed, such as pregnancy or breastfeeding, active infections in the treatment area, or certain medical conditions. The final indication is always established after an individual medical assessment.

Your first visit at Clínica Provença

Before any treatment is performed, we carry out an assessment focused on your individual case. In the glabellar area, we analyse:

  • The face at rest and in motion.
  • The frowning pattern and muscle strength.
  • The relationship between the glabellar area, the forehead and the eyebrows.
  • Pre-existing asymmetries and skin quality.
  • Your expectations and the level of naturalness you wish to achieve.

With this information, we create a fully personalised plan focused on balance and harmony with your facial expression.

How is the procedure performed and what aftercare do we recommend?

The treatment is performed in a medical setting using micro-injections at carefully planned points. It is usually a quick procedure and is generally well tolerated.

After the session, you can usually resume your normal activities while following simple, personalised recommendations, such as avoiding rubbing the treated area or engaging in intense physical exercise during the first few hours.

How long do the effects of frown lines treatment last?

The effects are not immediate. They usually develop progressively in the days following treatment, with results becoming fully established after approximately two weeks in most patients.

The duration of the results is temporary and variable. As a general guideline, in many patients the effects may last up to six months, depending on factors such as muscle strength and facial movement patterns.

During the assessment and follow-up, we personalise the maintenance plan, always prioritising natural results and facial harmony.

Other frequently asked questions about frown lines treatment

Yes, “Botox” is a commonly used colloquial term. From a medical perspective, we speak of facial neuromodulation using prescription medicines that are always prescribed and administered by a qualified physician.

When correctly indicated and performed by a specialist physician, it is a routine and well-established procedure in aesthetic medicine.

Mild and temporary side effects may occur, such as local redness, minor discomfort or occasional bruising. Complications are uncommon and are minimised through a prior medical assessment, individualised planning and appropriate injection technique.

During the consultation, the benefits, limitations and possible effects are clearly explained, allowing you to make an informed decision.

Natural-looking results depend on accurate assessment and treatment planning. The goal is to soften expression without compromising facial expressiveness.

This is uncommon and is closely related to technique and treatment planning. For this reason, we carry out a prior medical assessment and apply a careful medical approach to minimise risks.

It is usually mild and short-lived discomfort.

It is usually not necessary. Specific aftercare recommendations are provided for the first few hours following treatment.

Yes. In many cases, we assess the harmony of the upper facial third and plan the treatment in a personalised way.

Depending on individual facial characteristics, frown lines treatment may be combined with forehead or crow’s feet treatment to achieve harmony in the upper facial third.

When the line is very pronounced at rest, alternative or combined approaches may be considered, always following a personalised medical evaluation.
