When you notice your hair losing fullness, your parting becoming more visible or your hair no longer feeling as thick as it once did, it is difficult not to start looking for solutions. You have probably been doing so for some time: reading, comparing options and trying to understand what might work for you.
Hair exosomes are one of those options. They can be an effective treatment, but they are not suitable for every case. Whether they can benefit your hair depends on the actual condition of your follicles and the type of hair loss you are experiencing. This requires a thorough clinical assessment before any treatment is recommended.

Exosomes are microscopic cell-derived vesicles that act as biological messengers, carrying growth factors, proteins and regenerative signals from one cell to another. In simple terms, they are one of the ways the body signals a tissue to activate, repair itself and function more effectively.
When applied to the scalp, these signals are directed towards the hair follicle. The aim is to reactivate weakened follicles—those producing progressively finer hair or remaining in the resting phase for longer than usual—so they can return to a more active growth cycle.
What it addresses. Progressive hair thinning, loss of density and reduced hair quality. These changes may have different causes, including genetic predisposition (androgenetic alopecia), hormonal changes, stress or simply ageing. Exosomes do not treat the underlying hormonal or genetic cause, but they may improve the local follicular environment and help existing follicles function more effectively.
How it differs from other treatments. Unlike PRP, which uses growth factors obtained from your own blood, hair exosomes provide a concentrated source of regenerative signals that does not depend on the patient’s biological status. Unlike a hair transplant, no follicles are relocated: the treatment works with the follicles you already have, helping them produce stronger, better-quality hair.
What it is not. It is not a solution for advanced baldness where the follicles have already been lost. It does not replace a medical diagnosis of the cause of hair loss. Nor is it a single-session treatment: results develop progressively through a protocol adjusted by the doctor according to your individual response.
What the session involves and what happens afterwards. The treatment is performed at the clinic and takes around twenty minutes. Mild redness may appear during the following hours and usually settles quickly. There is no downtime and no significant restrictions after the session: you can return to your usual routine while following a few simple aftercare instructions that we will provide.
Hair exosomes tend to work best when treatment begins early, as they act on follicles that are still active, although weakened. If you have noticed reduced density, thinning around the parting, crown or temples, and the follicles are still present, you may be a suitable candidate.

The most common improvements are progressive changes in three areas: greater hair density, with more visible hair in the treated areas; increased thickness of individual hairs, so the hair feels fuller; and a reduction in active shedding.
It is important to understand the expected timeline. In most cases, the first signs—less shedding and a slight improvement in texture—appear during the first few weeks. Visible changes in density are usually noticeable between the third and fourth month, while the most complete results tend to develop by around six months.
This means that patience and consistency with the protocol are essential. The number and frequency of sessions depend on the initial condition of your scalp and how your follicles respond.
Are the results permanent? No, and it is important to understand this from the outset. Exosomes do not alter the underlying cause of hair loss; if it is genetic, the predisposition remains. Their role is to improve the follicular environment for a period that varies from person to person, usually between six and twelve months.
Maintenance sessions may then be recommended to help sustain the results. The appropriate schedule is determined according to how your case evolves.
We listen to what concerns you and what you expect from treatment: when you first noticed the loss of density, whether there was a specific trigger, which treatments you have previously tried and what result you are hoping to achieve.
We assess the condition of your scalp and follicles: their current growth phase, the type of hair loss, whether the thinning is diffuse or localised, and the degree of response that can reasonably be expected from the follicles in their present condition.
We provide a clear, reasoned recommendation: which treatment is appropriate for your case, which is not and why. Sometimes the answer is exosomes. Sometimes it is a combined approach. Sometimes it is another technique—or no treatment at all if we do not expect a meaningful improvement. We do not recommend a procedure simply because it is available.

In clinical practice, we observe that exosomes can provide a genuine improvement when they are appropriately indicated: in weakened follicles that are still present and with a suitable treatment protocol.
The key question is not whether exosomes work ‘in general’, but whether they are indicated for your specific case. This is what we assess before recommending any treatment.
If the follicle has been completely lost in a particular area—there has been no hair there for years and the scalp is smooth—exosomes cannot create a new follicle. They act on existing follicles that have weakened or miniaturised, not on an area where no follicles remain. In these cases, a hair transplant is usually the more realistic option.
There is, however, an intermediate situation: areas where the hair appears to have disappeared but the follicles are actually miniaturised and producing hairs so fine that they are barely visible. These follicles may still respond. Establishing which situation applies to you is part of the clinical assessment.
As a general guide, the protocol usually involves 1–3 sessions, although the exact number will depend on the diagnosis.
Results develop progressively. The first signs, such as reduced shedding and improved texture, are often noticed during the first few weeks of treatment. Visible changes in density usually appear between the third and fourth month, while the most complete results tend to develop by around six months. Response varies between patients and depends on the initial condition of the follicles.
The usual side effects are mild and temporary. Slight redness or tenderness of the scalp may occur after the session and normally resolves within the following hours.
Results generally last between six and twelve months, although their duration varies according to the type of alopecia, the individual response and the factors contributing to hair loss, including genetic, hormonal and lifestyle factors. In androgenetic alopecia, where the genetic predisposition remains active, periodic maintenance sessions are often recommended to help sustain the results.
We determine the frequency according to how your case evolves. In other, more temporary forms of hair loss—such as stress-related shedding or transient hormonal changes—the improvement may last longer without maintenance. This is assessed individually.
