Neck lines have one particular feature: they are not caused by facial expression. They do not appear when you smile or relax when your face is at rest, which means that even the best cream can only work on the surface.
Once the crease has become established, there is a medical option that does not involve surgery: filling it from within, precisely and in small amounts.
It is not suitable for every neck or every type of wrinkle — which is why the starting point is always a medical consultation to confirm whether it is right for you.

Horizontal neck lines — sometimes known as Venus rings or necklace lines — develop through a combination of factors: repeated skin folding when looking down, particularly at screens; the gradual loss of collagen and elastin; and cumulative sun exposure in an area that is often less protected than the face. Over time, a postural fold can become a permanent crease.
The treatment involves filling the crease with hyaluronic acid, a biocompatible and biodegradable gel that is gradually integrated and broken down by the body. Small amounts are injected superficially along the line to restore support precisely where the skin has become indented. The aim is to soften the crease and reduce the shadow it creates — not to change the appearance of your neck, but to make the line less noticeable.
The skin on the neck is thinner than facial skin, and this determines every aspect of the technique: the type of hyaluronic acid, the injection depth and the amount used. In this area, using less product and placing it accurately is more important than injecting a larger volume. It is the difference between a neck that looks refreshed and one that looks visibly treated.
It is also important to understand what this treatment does not address. It does not treat skin laxity or a generalised loss of skin density; for these concerns, we use collagen-stimulating treatments, as explained on our neck laxity treatment page. If your neck shows both concerns — which is common — we will advise you during your consultation where to begin and in what order.
The session. Treatment takes around 30 minutes. A topical anaesthetic cream can be applied beforehand if you prefer. The microinjections follow each line; immediately afterwards, you may notice redness, tiny injection marks or mild raised areas, which usually settle within a few days. As with any injectable treatment, occasional bruising may occur.
After treatment. The improvement is visible immediately and becomes more defined as the product settles, usually within one to two weeks. You can return to your normal routine the same day; we will ask you to avoid intense exercise and direct heat for the first 24–48 hours. Results are temporary — typically lasting around 9 to 15 months, depending on your skin and lifestyle — and can be maintained with follow-up sessions.
This treatment is most suitable when horizontal neck lines are already visible at rest — not only when the neck is flexed — and the skin retains a reasonable degree of quality. We see this in very different patients: mature skin in which the creases have deepened over time, as well as younger people whose screen-related posture has caused lines to appear earlier.
It can also be a good option if you already care for your face but feel that your neck has been left behind. This area can reveal signs of ageing early and often responds well when treated with the appropriate technique.
In some cases, we recommend a different approach. If loss of firmness is the main concern — with skin that has become lax or finely creased, with a paper-like texture — filling the individual lines would not be enough. In these cases, we first work on skin quality and support with collagen-stimulating treatments.
And if your goal is a completely line-free neck, it is important to set realistic expectations: the aim is to soften the lines until they are no longer prominent, rather than always removing them entirely. The aim is for the line to stop being the first thing you notice. The crease is softened, the shadow that defines it becomes less visible and the surface of the neck appears smoother and reflects light more evenly. Hyaluronic acid also hydrates the tissue from within, so the treated skin often looks smoother and more supple.
The result is intentionally subtle: your neck should look better, not different. No one should be able to identify what you have had done — only notice that the area looks more rested.
Because the product is biodegradable, the treatment does not commit you to ongoing procedures. It can be repeated when the effect fades, adjusted at a future session or simply not continued.
We begin by listening to you: what concerns you about your neck, how long you have noticed it and what you hope to achieve.
We then assess the area to understand what is causing the changes you see: whether there is a defined crease in otherwise good-quality skin, whether the skin itself has lost density and firmness, or whether both concerns are present — because each situation requires a different technique.
Based on this assessment, we give you a clear, reasoned recommendation: what is appropriate for your case, what is not and why. Sometimes the right answer is a different treatment; sometimes, no treatment at all.

The skin on the neck is thin and does not tolerate overcorrection. This is precisely why the technique differs from facial filler treatment: a fluid hyaluronic acid is used in small amounts and placed at the appropriate depth so it integrates smoothly into the tissue.
Immediately after the session, it is normal to notice small injection marks or mild raised areas along the line. These are part of the initial recovery and usually disappear within a few days; they are not the final result.
This depends on how deep the wrinkle is and how long it has been present. Moderate lines may become almost imperceptible, while very deep creases can be noticeably softened although a fine trace may remain.
The aim is for the line to stop drawing attention, and this can be achieved in most cases. Once we have assessed your neck, we will explain the realistic degree of improvement you can expect.
In many cases, one session is enough. If the lines are deep, a second session a few weeks later may be advisable, allowing us to build the result gradually rather than overcorrecting in a single appointment.
Results typically last around 9 to 15 months — depending on the skin, metabolism and lifestyle — and can be maintained with follow-up sessions when you notice the crease beginning to return.
Hyaluronic acid is a molecule naturally present in the skin. It is biocompatible, biodegradable and has been used medically for decades. The most common effects after treatment are mild and temporary, such as redness, slight swelling or occasional bruising, which usually resolves within a few days.
Before treatment, we review your medical history. There are situations in which we prefer to postpone the procedure, including an active infection in the area, pregnancy or breastfeeding.
This is one of the most common questions we hear in consultation, and the answer depends on what is affecting your neck. If the concern is a specific crease — a defined horizontal line in skin that is otherwise in good condition — hyaluronic acid can fill it directly, with an immediately visible improvement.
If the concern affects the skin as a whole — with loss of firmness, thinning or a finely wrinkled texture — filling individual lines will not address it. In these cases, we recommend collagen stimulators, which improve tissue quality progressively. Many necks show both concerns, so the key lies in the sequence and timing of each treatment. This is exactly what we determine during your consultation.
