Microneedling is a collagen induction therapy. A medical device fitted with very fine needles creates thousands of controlled microchannels in the skin. Each one is tiny, but together they send the skin a clear signal: repair itself. The skin responds in the way it knows best, by producing new collagen and elastin.
This regenerative process gradually improves skin texture, the appearance of enlarged pores, superficial acne scars, fine lines and overall radiance. The microchannels also temporarily enhance the delivery of the ingredients applied during the session — such as vitamins, hyaluronic acid and revitalising actives — into layers of the skin that topical creams cannot reach.
The difference between medical and cosmetic microneedling lies in both depth and clinical judgement. In a medical setting, we work at depths that reach the dermis and adjust them to each area: the delicate skin around the eyes is not treated in the same way as the cheeks, just as skin with acne scars requires a different approach from skin that has simply lost radiance. This precise adjustment influences both the outcome and the safety of the treatment.
It is also important to explain what microneedling is not. It is not a filler: it does not add volume or alter your features. It cannot correct established skin laxity or deep wrinkles, which require a different approach. Nor does it provide an immediate result: new collagen takes several weeks to form, and that is precisely why the improvement is genuine rather than temporary.
The session. You arrive with clean skin, and we apply a topical anaesthetic cream and allow it time to work. The treatment itself takes around 20–30 minutes; most patients describe it as mild discomfort rather than pain. At the end, we apply the ingredients selected for your skin and explain how to care for it over the following days.
What happens afterwards. The skin remains red, similar to mild sun exposure, for around 24–48 hours. Regeneration then continues quietly beneath the surface: the first improvement in tone and smoothness is usually noticeable after two or three weeks, while the overall result develops progressively with the recommended course of sessions.
Microneedling is indicated when your main goal is to improve skin quality: uneven texture, visible pores, superficial acne scars, fine lines, dullness or loss of tone evenness caused by sun exposure. It can also be a useful maintenance treatment for younger skin that aims to preserve its quality.

This is the first question most people ask, and understandably so: the treatment involves needles. The honest answer is that the idea is usually more uncomfortable than the session itself. Before starting, we apply a topical anaesthetic cream and allow it sufficient time to work. Once the skin is prepared, most patients describe the sensation as a rough tingling or vibration, with slightly greater discomfort in areas where the skin is thinner, such as the forehead.
If you feel uncomfortable at any point, we adjust the treatment: the working depth can be regulated throughout the session.
The skin remains red for around 24–48 hours, similar to mild sun exposure. You can return to your normal routine immediately, with two important precautions that we will explain in greater detail during your consultation: use strict sun protection and wait until the following day before applying make-up, as the skin’s microchannels need several hours to close.
Some skin types may experience mild flaking on the third or fourth day. This is part of the renewal process and resolves on its own. If you have an important event coming up, let us know when booking so that we can schedule your session with enough time beforehand.
Microneedling does not provide immediate results, and you should be cautious of anyone who promises them: new collagen takes several weeks to form. The first improvements — smoother skin and a more even tone — are usually noticeable two to three weeks after the first session.
The result you are looking for develops through a course of spaced sessions, and the exact number depends on your starting point. Skin that simply needs greater radiance does not require the same approach as skin with acne scars. During your consultation, we explain how many sessions are clinically appropriate in your case — and whether a course of treatment is genuinely worthwhile.
Microneedling may help improve pigmentation when it is used to deliver depigmenting ingredients and is performed at the appropriate depth.
However, an overly aggressive treatment can have the opposite effect, particularly in melasma and darker skin phototypes, where inflammation may trigger increased pigment production.
For this reason, the initial assessment is essential in these cases. We evaluate the type of pigmentation and your skin phototype, and explain whether microneedling is a suitable option, what preparation is required or whether another approach would be safer and more effective.
Yes, when properly planned. Microneedling works within the skin, while fillers and injectable collagen stimulators act in deeper planes, so they do not compete with one another. In fact, they can complement each other well within a facial rejuvenation plan.
What matters is the order and timing of the treatments, including allowing several weeks after a recent injectable procedure. If you have had previous treatments, tell us during your consultation so that we can organise the schedule and allow each treatment to perform at its best.
They are often confused because all three improve skin quality, but they work through different mechanisms.
Microneedling stimulates regeneration from the outside through controlled microchannels. It is particularly suited to improving texture, pores and superficial marks.
Skinboosters provide deep hydration using a fluid hyaluronic acid formulation. They are particularly suited to dehydrated, dull skin.
Polynucleotides are injectable regenerative treatments that support cellular repair. They are particularly suited to thin, fragile or damaged skin.
They are not competing treatments — in some cases, the best approach combines two of them at different stages. The choice depends on what is causing the changes you see in your skin, which is precisely what we assess during your consultation.
It is not the same treatment, even if it shares the same name. The difference lies in the depth: home-use devices and those permitted outside a medical setting work only on the most superficial layer of the skin, where their ability to stimulate collagen is limited.
Medical microneedling reaches the dermis, where meaningful regeneration takes place. Working at this depth requires clinical knowledge of the skin, precise adjustment of the device for each area, and appropriate preparation and aftercare to reduce the risk of complications.
