Perhaps you notice it when you look at your profile: the line between your face and neck is no longer as defined as it once was. Or perhaps your jawline has never had the definition you would like, and you now know it may be possible to enhance it without surgery.
In carefully selected cases, hyaluronic acid filler can restore or create this structural support in a single session. The key is careful patient selection: what you see in the lower face may be caused by bone structure, fat distribution or skin laxity, and each requires a different approach.
That is why every treatment begins with an assessment: to understand what is causing the concern in your case and allow you to decide calmly afterwards.

The jawline is one of the key structures that defines the lower third of the face: it supports the facial contour, separates the face from the neck and contributes to a balanced profile.
With age, bone volume decreases and the tissues descend; in other people, the jawline may simply have had limited projection from the outset. In both situations, the visible result can be similar—a less defined contour—even though the underlying cause is different.
Treatment involves injecting a high-density hyaluronic acid filler at precise points along the mandibular border and angle to restore missing support or create the structure that the anatomy does not naturally provide. The aim is not simply to add volume, but to place it exactly where the structure requires it: a difference of just a few millimetres can alter the proportions of the entire face, which is why planning matters more than the product itself.
It is also important to understand what this treatment cannot do: it does not tighten skin that has lost firmness or reduce fat beneath the chin. When either of these is the main cause, there are treatments designed specifically for them, and the assessment is precisely what allows us to distinguish between them.
The appointment. Treatment usually takes 30 to 45 minutes. The filler is injected according to the area being treated. You can return to your usual routine the same day, while avoiding strenuous exercise and pressure on the area for the first 48 hours, together with the other aftercare instructions we will provide.
After treatment. The change is visible immediately. Mild swelling or a small bruise may occur for a few days; the final result settles over approximately two weeks, and we arrange a follow-up appointment to assess it with you.
Jawline filler is generally indicated in two specific situations.
The first is when your jawline has always lacked definition. Limited bony projection can make the face appear less structured in profile, a common concern both for women seeking a more defined facial contour and for men who want a stronger mandibular angle. In this case, filler creates the support that the anatomy does not naturally provide while respecting the proportions of your face—definition does not mean making the face wider.
The second is when you have noticed the jawline becoming less defined over time, your skin still has good quality and the main issue is loss of support. In these cases, restoring structure along the mandibular border can improve definition and is often accompanied by an assessment of the chin and midface, because facial balance must be considered as a whole.
There is a third situation we often see in consultation that requires a different response: when loss of skin firmness or tissue descent is the predominant concern. Adding filler to skin that primarily needs tightening does not solve the problem and may make the lower face look heavier.
In this situation, other options may be more appropriate—from collagen-stimulating treatments to surgery in more advanced cases—and during the assessment we will explain which approach is suitable for you and why.

This is a reasonable concern, especially if you have seen overdone results in other people. The answer depends entirely on the indication and the technique used.
Jawline filler adds lateral structure, and it may not be the best option for a face that is already naturally wide. Part of the assessment is identifying this before treatment, not afterwards.
The amount of filler and the injection points are carefully planned to define the contour while respecting your facial proportions: in women, preserving a refined facial oval; in men, enhancing the mandibular angle when that is the desired goal.
When correctly indicated and precisely placed—with an appropriate-density product, injected in the correct anatomical plane and in a suitable amount—hyaluronic acid filler remains stable where it is deposited while the body gradually reabsorbs it.
The migration you may have seen or read about is usually associated with excessive product, fillers that are unsuitable for the area or injections placed too superficially. This is also why we prefer to correct progressively: more can always be added at review; dissolving filler is possible, but it is better not to need to.
Results typically last between 12 and 18 months, depending on the product used, your individual characteristics and your metabolism. Reabsorption is gradual: there is no sudden change, but rather a progressive reduction in definition that slowly returns you to your starting point.
When you notice the effect diminishing, we assess whether maintenance treatment is appropriate. In patients who have previously received well-indicated treatment, subsequent sessions often require less product.
We use only medical-grade, biocompatible and fully resorbable hyaluronic acid fillers. The most common side effects are mild and temporary, such as redness, slight swelling or small bruises that resolve within a few days.
Treatment is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding, not because a risk has been demonstrated, but as a precaution due to the absence of studies in these situations. We do not use permanent fillers at the clinic, as they are associated with nodules and long-term deformities.
Each option addresses a different underlying cause, which is the most useful way to understand them.
Hyaluronic acid filler restores structure: it is indicated when there is insufficient bony support or projection, and the result is immediate.
Collagen stimulators improve tissue quality and firmness: they are appropriate when the skin has lost density, with results developing progressively over several months.
Surgery becomes relevant when there is excess skin or tissue descent that cannot be corrected with injectable treatments.
In many real cases, several causes are present at the same time. This is why the assessment examines the lower face layer by layer before any treatment is recommended.
It depends on what is causing the concern. If the contour is less defined because of insufficient support and the skin still has good firmness, jawline filler can restore a significant degree of definition.
If sagging skin or fat beneath the chin is the predominant issue, filler is not the appropriate treatment. In these cases, the solution may involve collagen-stimulating procedures, treatment of submental fat or, in more advanced cases, surgery.
It is not always possible to distinguish between these causes simply by looking, and this is exactly what the assessment is designed to clarify.
Yes. In fact, the jawline is often treated as part of a plan that considers the face as a whole.
The most common combinations include the chin—because the profile and jawline function as a unit—the cheekbones when the midface has lost support, or treatments aimed at improving skin quality.
A combined treatment is never proposed as a commercial add-on. It is recommended only when the overall facial analysis justifies it, and always with appropriate intervals between sessions.
