We rarely notice the chin straight on. It tends to stand out in profile: in an unexpected photo or a video where you catch yourself from the side. If what you noticed was a slightly recessed chin, a profile that lacks definition or a chin that blends into the neck, there is a medical, non-surgical option.
Hyaluronic acid can provide support and projection to the chin, helping to rebalance the facial profile. When it is appropriate for your anatomy — which is the first thing we assess — treatment can be completed in a single session, with a visible result from day one.

This medical treatment places hyaluronic acid at precise points in the chin, usually in a deep plane close to the bone. Here, the product acts as structural support: it projects the chin forwards, defines its contour and restores balance between the lower lip, chin and neck. The facial profile becomes more harmonious without any one feature appearing overemphasised.
The quality of the result depends not simply on the product, but on where it is placed and how much is used. A well-treated chin should not look larger; it should look correctly proportioned. This is why Dr Manuela Gheorghiu plans each injection by assessing the complete profile — the projection of the nose, the position of the lips and the continuity of the jawline — and selects the amount according to what the face genuinely needs, which is usually less than patients expect.
It is also important to clarify what this treatment is not. It is not a genioplasty or a chin implant: it does not alter the bone or leave anything permanent in the body. Nor is it a treatment for fat beneath the chin — a double chin requires a different approach — although both concerns may sometimes be assessed together.
The appointment lasts around 30 minutes. The filler contains a local anaesthetic, and the area is treated carefully while we review the result with you in the mirror. Mild swelling or a small bruise may appear during the first few days. The improvement is visible immediately and continues to settle over approximately two weeks, as the product fully integrates into the tissues.
You can return to your normal routine the same day, following a few simple precautions that we explain during your appointment.
Chin filler is generally indicated in three situations.
The first is a naturally recessed chin. Because of genetics or the position of the bite, the chin sits behind the line of the lips and the profile appears less defined. This is the most common indication in both women and men, and one of the situations that responds best to treatment.
The second is age-related change. Over time, the chin bone gradually loses structural support and the surrounding tissues reflect this: the chin may appear shorter, its contour becomes less defined and the transition towards the neck becomes less clear. In these cases, hyaluronic acid restores some of the support that has been lost with age.
The third is asymmetry or disproportion within the facial profile: for example, a chin that is slightly deviated or appears small in relation to the nose. In these cases, treatment focuses on restoring balance and may sometimes be planned alongside other areas of the lower face.
There are cases in which chin filler is not the appropriate treatment, and it is important to recognise them beforehand. If your main concern is fat accumulation or loose skin beneath the chin, filler will not correct it; other treatments for a double chin or skin laxity may be more suitable. If the recession is pronounced and primarily skeletal, the honest recommendation may be an orthodontic or surgical solution. Treatment is also not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

A more balanced profile, in which the chin supports the other facial features rather than detracting from them. The nose may appear more proportionate without being treated, the lower lip sits more naturally and the line from the chin to the neck regains clearer direction.
From the front, the change is more subtle but still noticeable: the lower third of the face gains structure and the features appear slightly more defined, without anyone being able to identify exactly why. That is the standard we follow — for you to look better, not different. The chin is particularly well suited to this approach because a few precisely placed millimetres can make a meaningful difference.
The result is immediate, improves as the filler integrates and remains visible for many months. When the effect gradually begins to fade, you can decide calmly whether you wish to maintain it.
We begin by listening to what concerns you and what you hope to achieve. We then assess your entire facial profile: the relationship between the nose, lips and chin, the underlying bone support, the position of the bite, and the amount and quality of tissue beneath the chin. This allows us to understand exactly what is creating the appearance you see.
Based on this assessment, we give you a clear, reasoned recommendation: what is appropriate for your case, what is not and why. Sometimes the right answer is a different treatment; sometimes, no treatment at all.

What people notice is the overall effect: a facial profile that looks more balanced. The chin is particularly suitable in this respect because the filler is placed deeply over firm structures and does not alter facial expression or movement.
Our approach is to begin with the amount your profile needs — not the maximum amount possible — and review the result with you. Hyaluronic acid also allows for gradual refinement, so the treatment can be complemented later if appropriate.
This is a very common concern. The simple answer is that, with the correct technique, migration should not occur. The risk is mainly associated with filler placed too superficially or used in excessive quantities.
In the chin, we work in a deep plane close to the bone, where the product remains contained and stable. There is therefore no need to sleep in a specific position or constantly monitor the area. The relevant precautions are simple and only last a few days; we explain them after your treatment.
It depends on the degree of recession and the result you are seeking. When the lack of projection is mild or moderate, hyaluronic acid can create a proportionate improvement without surgery or downtime. For many patients, it is also a cautious way to see how a more projected chin suits their face before considering a permanent procedure.
When the recession is pronounced and primarily skeletal, filler is unlikely to provide sufficient correction, and an orthodontic or surgical solution may be more appropriate.

Chin filler typically lasts around 12 to 18 months, often longer than in highly mobile areas such as the lips. Because the chin is relatively stable, the product tends to break down more slowly. Longevity also depends on the type of hyaluronic acid used, the amount injected and each patient’s individual metabolism.
As the effect gradually begins to fade, you may consider a maintenance treatment. The decision is always yours and is always preceded by a medical review.
When performed by an aesthetic doctor using a medical-grade product, chin filler has a favourable safety profile. The most common effects are mild and temporary, including swelling, tenderness or a small bruise at the injection points, which usually resolve within a few days.
We use only resorbable hyaluronic acid fillers from established medical laboratories and do not use permanent fillers.

It depends on the cause, and this is one of the most useful distinctions made during the assessment. If your chin is recessed, projecting it with hyaluronic acid can improve the transition between the chin and neck, making the area appear more defined.
However, if the main issue is fat accumulation or reduced skin firmness beneath the chin, chin filler is not the appropriate treatment. In that situation, we assess other options designed specifically for the area, either alone or combined with filler when clinically appropriate.
Distinguishing between these situations requires an examination of the area.
Yes, when the diagnosis supports it. The most common combination is chin and jawline filler, as both treatments reinforce the structure of the lower third of the face and can define the full contour from the chin to the mandibular angle.
