If you’ve made it this far, chances are you already know what Lanluma is. The real question is whether it works on the abdomen—and, above all, whether it’s the right treatment for yours.
Lanluma may be considered when abdominal skin has lost firmness and quality—after pregnancy, weight changes or over time—and the aim is to help the tissue gradually regain density and support.
At Clínica Provença in Barcelona, we recommend it only when it is suited to your type of skin laxity and to the result that can reasonably be expected.

Lanluma is an injectable treatment based on poly-L-lactic acid, a collagen biostimulator. It does not work like a filler that changes the abdomen immediately. Instead, it stimulates the tissue itself to gradually regain density, consistency and supporting capacity.
What sets it apart from other collagen biostimulators is its formulation. Lanluma comes in vials containing a larger quantity of product, specifically designed for extensive body areas such as the abdomen. This makes it possible to plan even coverage across the whole area rather than treating it in separate sections—an important factor in a large treatment zone.
Lanluma microparticles are distributed within the tissue and trigger a controlled biological response. They activate fibroblasts—the cells responsible for producing collagen—and promote gradual remodelling of the dermis. The skin is not ‘filled’; over time, it gains support, density and improved quality as the new collagen matures.
We do not consider Lanluma an automatic solution for every abdomen with laxity. It is most appropriate when skin quality is the main concern and the aim is gradual, integrated improvement. Unlike treatments that work from the outside, Lanluma acts within the tissue; and rather than following a ‘one session and done’ approach, treatment is planned in stages while we assess how your skin responds.
Lanluma does not remove localised fat, correct abdominal muscle separation or replace abdominoplasty when laxity is significant. Nor is it intended to add volume to the abdomen: in this area, the goal is skin support and quality, not projection.
The procedure is performed in the clinic. After marking the treatment area, the product is distributed through carefully planned injections to achieve even collagen stimulation. On the abdomen, we do not usually treat only the area below the navel: including the upper abdomen helps create a more continuous result and a better overall supporting effect.
Recovery is usually quick and compatible with your normal routine. Mild swelling, tenderness or small bruises may occur during the first few days and gradually resolve.

We listen to what concerns you and what you expect from treatment. We assess what is causing the changes you see: the true degree of laxity, skin thickness and quality, the size of the area to be treated, and whether localised fat or abdominal muscle separation may require a different strategy.
We then give you a medically reasoned recommendation: what is suitable for your case, what is not, and why. Sometimes the right answer is a different technique; sometimes, no treatment at all.
You leave with a clear treatment plan and quotation, and decide afterwards, without pressure.

It depends on what we mean by tightening. Lanluma does not remove or shrink excess skin in the way surgery can. It improves the internal structure of the tissue, helping the skin gain density, support and firmness. With mild to moderate skin laxity, the improvement can be both visible and noticeable. For significant laxity, it is not the appropriate treatment.
Most patients require between one and three sessions, approximately four weeks apart. The final treatment plan is tailored during your consultation according to the degree of skin laxity, the extent of the treatment area, and your tissue’s response.
The results are not immediate. Some patients notice changes within a few weeks, but the improvement develops gradually as new collagen is produced and matures over the following months. As a general guide, the results typically last between 18 and 24 months, although this varies depending on age, tissue quality, and lifestyle.
Recovery is usually quick. Mild swelling, temporary redness, small bruises or tenderness during the first few days are expected and transient. Less commonly, small irregularities or nodules may occur; these are generally temporary or can be managed with appropriate follow-up.
The best prevention depends on three medical factors: selecting the right patient, using the correct reconstitution and injection technique, and providing appropriate clinical follow-up. This is why Lanluma should be performed as a medical treatment.
In general, we avoid treatment in the presence of active infections or skin lesions in the area, uncontrolled autoimmune disease, a tendency to abnormal scarring or keloids, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and a history of reactions to this type of product. Beyond formal contraindications, we do not recommend Lanluma when skin quality is not the main concern, as other strategies may be more appropriate for you.
Yes. These are common reasons for consultation. The key is to identify what remains: if the main issue is skin laxity, Lanluma may be appropriate; if there is abdominal muscle separation or more structural laxity, this must be assessed first.
