Biostimulation with poly-L-lactic acid to improve the firmness and quality of the abdominal skin when laxity is primarily cutaneous and the goal is a gradual improvement without surgery.
If you notice that the skin on your abdomen has lost firmness and quality (after pregnancy, weight changes, or simply over time), it is natural to wonder whether there is a non-surgical medical option that really works.
Lanluma is considered as a medical biostimulatory treatment in these cases.
Not all cases of abdominal laxity benefit from this treatment. At Clínica Provença in Barcelona, we recommend it only when it aligns with the type of laxity, tissue quality, and the results that can reasonably be expected.
We provide guidance based on medical expertise.
Not all abdomens with flaccidity benefit from this treatment. The indication depends on the type of tissue and the underlying cause of the problem.
It may be appropriate for you if:
It may not be the best option if:
In the abdomen, the key question is not simply “which treatment tightens,” but what is causing the flaccidity. We do not treat an abdomen with thin, dehydrated skin after pregnancy the same way as one with greater laxity, associated fat, or a structural component. That is where medical assessment makes the difference.
Lanluma is an injectable treatment based on poly-L-lactic acid, a collagen biostimulator. It does not work like a filler that changes the abdomen immediately, but as a treatment that works within the tissue so it progressively regains density, consistency, and support capacity.
Lanluma microparticles are distributed within the tissue and trigger a controlled biological response. This signal activates fibroblasts (the cells that produce collagen) and promotes progressive remodeling of the dermal matrix.
We observe an increase in type I collagen synthesis and neocollagenesis, which begins early at a biological level and continues to mature over the following months. The skin is not “filled,” but progressively gains support, density, and improved quality over time.
Lanluma is not presented as a universal solution or a one-size-fits-all approach for every abdomen with laxity. It is more appropriate when the predominant issue is skin quality and the goal is a gradual, integrated improvement without surgery.

Our goal is not to transform the abdomen, but to improve how the tissue behaves.
Lanluma for the abdomen is always considered after an assessment. Before treating, we evaluate:
The procedure is performed in the clinic. After marking the area, the product is distributed into the tissue through planned injections so that biostimulation is even and the abdomen is not treated in a fragmented way.
In the abdomen, moreover, it usually makes little sense to focus only on the infraumbilical area: assessing the area above the navel as well helps the result look more coherent and provides a better support effect.
We do not treat the abdomen as an isolated area. We assess skin quality, tissue support, and overall proportion to decide whether Lanluma makes sense in your case.
We work in stages, adjusting the treatment according to how the tissue responds. We aim for real, coherent improvements, not forced or immediate changes.
The goal is not to “fill,” but to improve firmness and skin quality so the abdomen looks more even and better supported.
Indication, technique, and follow-up are all part of the treatment. Knowing when to treat (and when not to) is key to achieving a good result.
Safety does not depend only on the product. It also depends on the indication, the technique and control of the process.
Would you like a personalised assessment?
We guide you with medical judgment and an individualized assessment.
Complimentary first consultation.
Like any medical treatment, it is not suitable in every case. In general, we avoid using it when there are:
On the other hand, it is not the most appropriate treatment when the main issue is not skin quality, but rather significant localized fat or laxity that requires surgery.
Even so, in these cases it can be an option for individuals who do not wish to undergo surgery and are looking to improve skin quality and firmness.
Recovery after Lanluma for the abdomen is usually quick and compatible with normal daily activity.
In the first few days, it is normal to notice mild swelling or a feeling of tightness in the area, as well as occasional redness, small bruises, or some sensitivity to touch. These are expected and temporary effects that resolve progressively.
Less commonly, small irregularities or nodules may appear, usually temporary or manageable with follow-up.
Therefore, in addition to the injection technique, it is important to follow post-treatment instructions and ensure appropriate clinical follow-up. With biostimulatory treatments, results depend not only on the product, but also on planning, technique, and monitoring at each stage.
No. It makes more sense when the flaccidity is mainly cutaneous and the goal is to improve tissue quality, density, and firmness. If localized fat, diastasis, or significant excess skin predominates, another strategy may be needed.
Poly-L-lactic acid acts as a biostimulator: it activates fibroblasts and promotes the progressive formation of new collagen. This helps the skin gain support and density over time, rather than producing an immediate “filling” effect.
It is not immediate. Some patients begin to notice changes within weeks, but the improvement develops progressively as the new collagen matures over the following months.
As a general guideline for the abdomen, we consider between 1 and 3 sessions, usually spaced about 4 weeks apart. The actual plan is adjusted based on the degree of laxity, the extent of the area, and the tissue response.
As a conservative reference, we speak of an estimated duration of 18 to 24 months, although this can vary depending on age, tissue quality, lifestyle, metabolism, and starting point.
Yes, it may be considered in those contexts when the main issue is the loss of skin quality and support. The important thing is to determine whether we are dealing with cutaneous flaccidity that can be treated with biostimulation or with more structural laxity that requires a different approach.
Sometimes yes, but it is not always advisable to do so from the start. In the abdomen, it is often more sensible to first determine the main issue (cutaneous flaccidity, localized fat, or a structural issue) and then assess whether Lanluma should be used on its own or as part of a phased plan.
