Hyaluronic Acid Facial Fillers

Restore support, soften folds and improve facial structure without surgery, with a medical approach that respects your anatomy and your natural expression.

Over time, the face loses volume and support in areas such as the cheekbones, nasolabial folds and jawline. Hyaluronic acid facial fillers make it possible to restore this structure in a controlled way, without altering facial expression or identity.

During the assessment, we analyse your case to determine whether this treatment is suitable for you and, if it is, where, how much and in what order.

We provide guidance based on medical expertise.

Hyaluronic acid fillers.

What does the treatment involve?

Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally produced by the body, and its levels decrease with age. In aesthetic medicine, it is used as an injectable gel to restore volume, rebuild support and soften facial folds in areas where structural loss has become visible.

It is not a cosmetic filler placed wherever a wrinkle appears. It is a medical tool that, when correctly indicated, allows us to work on the deeper structure of the face — bone, fat and skin — so the result blends with your anatomy and does not look like something added.

The treatment is performed in clinic, with anaesthetic included in the product, and usually takes between 30 and 60 minutes depending on the areas treated. The result is visible from the first session, although the final effect is best appreciated after two to three weeks, once the product has integrated and the initial swelling has settled.

Hyaluronic acid is resorbable: the body gradually metabolises it. The effect usually lasts between 9 and 18 months, depending on the area, the individual patient and the type of product used.

After the session, mild effects such as redness, slight swelling or a small bruise in the treated area may appear. These usually resolve within two or three days. You will receive specific aftercare instructions adapted to your case.

Is it right for you?

Hyaluronic acid facial fillers are indicated when there is loss of volume, support or definition in a facial area, and when that loss has a structural solution that does not require surgery.

Common situations where this treatment may be appropriate:

Not every case is solved with fillers. When the main cause is skin laxity, loss of skin quality or excessive muscle activity, a different indication may be more appropriate: biostimulators, redensification treatments or neuromodulators. During the assessment, we identify what applies to your case and what does not.

Treatments guided by medical judgment, with personalised planning and a conservative approach.

What can this treatment achieve?

What hyaluronic acid fillers do well is restore structure where it has been lost: replacing volume in the cheekbones, softening deep folds, improving chin projection or defining the jawline. The face regains balance and a more rested, defined appearance, without the treatment being noticeable.

The result depends on two things: the right indication and the right amount. That is why we work progressively — first on what has the greatest impact on overall facial balance, then on refinements — while always respecting what your anatomy allows without losing expressiveness.

In patients who maintain appropriate follow-up, results tend to stabilise over time: touch-ups become less frequent and the accumulated effect is maintained more consistently.

Treatment Areas

Hyaluronic acid can be used in different facial areas, and each one requires a different type of product, technique and clinical judgement. It is not just about adding filler, but knowing where, how much and for what purpose within the face as a whole.

What is the assessment like?

We listen to what concerns you and what you expect. We start by understanding what you see, what bothers you, what you have tried before and what result you would like to achieve.

We analyse your face as a whole: proportions, volumes, bone support, tissue quality and how the different areas interact. Volume loss in one area often has visible consequences in others, so the diagnosis must consider the whole face before treating one specific part.

We give you a reasoned indication: which treatment is appropriate for your case, in which areas, in what order and why. If hyaluronic acid filler is the answer, we explain the plan. If another technique is more suitable, we tell you. And if it is not the right time or not the right indication, we tell you that too.

You leave with a plan and a quote, and you decide afterwards, calmly. There is no pressure to decide on the spot.

Would you like a personalised assessment?

We guide you with medical judgment and an individualized assessment.

Frequently asked questions about hyaluronic acid facial fillers

This is the most common concern, and understandably so: we have all seen results that should not have happened. These cases are usually due to too much product, an incorrect indication or an approach that tries to fill where a wrinkle is visible instead of analysing which structure has been lost and how to restore it.

At Clínica Provença, the approach is progressive: we work by layers, in sequenced sessions, and adjust the plan according to the evolution and the patient’s perception. The aim is for the result to integrate with your anatomy — so people notice you look well, not different.

It depends on the area treated, the type of product used and individual factors such as age, metabolism and lifestyle. As a general guideline, the effect usually lasts between 9 and 18 months.

When previous treatments have been correctly indicated and properly performed, touch-ups are often smaller and more spaced out over time. During the assessment, we give you a realistic estimate for your case.

Yes, when performed by an aesthetic doctor with specific training and medical-grade products. Hyaluronic acid is biocompatible and resorbable, which gives it a strong safety profile.

The most common side effects are mild and temporary: redness, slight swelling or small bruises in the treated area, which usually disappear within a few days. Serious complications are very uncommon.

At this clinic, we do not use permanent fillers or non-resorbable products.

This is a very common doubt, because what you see in the mirror — a fold, a shadow or an area that has dropped — may have different causes: volume loss, tissue laxity, skin quality or muscle activity. Each cause requires a different approach.

That is exactly what we assess during the consultation. It is not about choosing a treatment and applying it, but about diagnosing what is happening in your case and deciding which intervention is most appropriate. Sometimes the answer is a filler; sometimes it is a biostimulator, a redensification treatment or a combination of several options.

Yes, and in fact this is common. Hyaluronic acid works on volume and structure, but it does not act on skin quality or muscle activity. In many cases, a complete plan combines fillers with biostimulators for laxity, neuromodulators for expression lines or redensification treatments to improve texture and radiance.

The sequence and order of treatments matter. During the assessment, we design a plan that integrates what is needed in a coherent way, prioritising what has the greatest impact on the overall result.
