When one area of the thigh starts to catch your eye in the mirror, the natural instinct is to want to correct that specific point. The leg, however, works as a whole, and improving its appearance is not about adding something to one particular area, but about restoring the quality and support of the tissue itself.
Sculptra is based on this approach. Here we explain how it works in the legs, what you can expect and how we confirm, before treating anything, whether it is suitable for you.

Sculptra is poly-L-lactic acid, a collagen biostimulator. It is not a filler: it does not add volume. Instead, it stimulates your own skin to produce new collagen, gradually improving firmness and skin quality.
During the first few weeks, you will not notice a meaningful change; the improvement appears later, as the tissue responds, and we assess it carefully at around the third month. This is the difference between filling and restoring support: slower, but more stable and much harder to detect as something that has been “done”.
It is also important to understand its limits: Sculptra does not remove fat, it does not treat cellulite itself —although it may improve its appearance by increasing skin density— and it is not a substitute for surgery when there is significant excess skin.
The treatment is performed on an outpatient basis. Sculptra is administered with a cannula and may cause some swelling or a small bruise, which usually resolves within a few days. Afterwards, we explain how to massage the area at home over the following days: this is part of the treatment, as it helps distribute the product evenly. Depending on the diagnosis, treatment may need to be carried out in stages, over several spaced sessions.
Not every leg will improve with Sculptra. It is suitable when there is mild to moderate skin laxity or loss of skin quality and the tissue still has the capacity to respond. It is not suitable when there is significant excess skin —for example, after substantial weight loss—: in that situation, surgery rather than biostimulation is the appropriate approach.

The aim is for the skin to look firmer and healthier without it appearing that you have had anything done. We are not looking for a sudden change, but for the tissue to regain support so that what others notice is simply an improvement.
The change is gradual. The first few weeks are not representative; the real result is seen later, and we assess it together once new collagen has formed. We always speak in ranges, because every skin responds differently: your age, skin quality, smoking, weight changes and the treated area all play a role.
Once the result has fully developed, it is long-lasting —typically around two years— and its duration will depend on how your skin evolves over time. This stability is one of its advantages.
We listen to what concerns you and what you expect from treatment. We assess the leg as a whole: what is causing what you see —loss of skin density, fat, cellulite or a combination—, which areas are worth treating, in what order, and which are better left untreated.
We give you a reasoned medical recommendation: what is appropriate for your case, what is not, and why. Sometimes the answer is another technique; sometimes, no treatment at all.
You leave with a clear treatment plan and quotation, and decide afterwards, without pressure.

The idea is exactly the opposite. Sculptra does not add volume: it gradually improves the firmness and quality of your own skin. What people notice is that your skin looks better, not that you have had a treatment, and because the change does not happen overnight, it remains discreet even to those who see you often.
Yes, it can work on the body, but not all areas respond in the same way. The back of the thigh tends to respond best. In other areas, such as the inner thigh or outer contour, the response is more variable and we set more cautious expectations. This is why the initial medical assessment is essential: it allows us to define what you can realistically expect in your case.
You will not notice a meaningful change during the first two to four weeks, and that is normal: collagen takes time to form. Improvement appears afterwards, gradually, and we assess the result together at around the third month.
Most patients need one or two sessions spaced several weeks apart, but the exact number depends on your skin and the area being treated, and is determined during the assessment.
Safety is an essential part of the treatment. As with any medical procedure, there are possible effects you should be aware of: the most common are mild —swelling, tenderness and occasional bruising—, while the concern patients most often ask about, small nodules under the skin, is uncommon when the product is prepared, diluted and administered according to appropriate protocols, and usually has a favourable course. During the consultation, we review these aspects with you, together with your medical history, before recommending treatment.
